With the closing of the Thomas Magnelson’s Gallery last month, the 3 remaining galleries in downtown Kirkland have banded together with their neighboring retailers and restaurants to start a new event called Second Thursdays on Park Lane.

Beginning next week on May 14th – Park Lane will become something of an Arts Extravaganza every second Thursday from May through October from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

The street will be closed to traffic, and live jazz music will be featured on the west end next to Lakeshore Gallery and the McLeod Fountain. Merchants and galleries will feature local artists selling and demonstrating their crafts, and the streets will become one big canvas with chalk artists showing their talents in a friendly competition. Next week will also feature a wandering magician – with the hopes of adding additional performance artists and body painting later in the summer.

The galleries, merchants and restaurants on Park Lane hope to expand Second Thursdays to encompass all of downtown Kirkland as the event gains momentum, however it will be kept confined to their street for the next couple of months.

For more information please contact Luanne Erikson of Howard Mandville Gallery at 425-889-8212 or Liberty Hanson of Liberty 123 at 425-822-1232.

Park Lane is such a great location for this kind of event. I assume that they are closing off the street.

      Hi Ghost,
It is my understanding that every second Thursday the street will be closed to traffic and there will be live music, street performers and street painting/chalk artists. It sounds quite festive. More to follow as the date draws near.

Here is an update regarding events tomorrow evening – should be a blast!

The merchants on Park Lane have been working together over this past week to bring in local artists and entertainment to their stores, with impressive results. The following are just a few of the events that will be going on during the evening – all are free and open to the public.

The Seattle based quintet Nova Bossa Band will be playing on the West end of Park Lane next to the McLeod Fountain and will be performing classic Bossa Nova tunes in original Portuguese by Brazilian vocalist Marcia Tavora. Their Brazilian sound is sure to please with their “sophisticated and feminine pop-music sound.” Thanks to Sweet Cakes for helping locate the band.

A wandering magician to entertain the crowd has been sponsored by Cactus Restaurant.

Lakeshore Gallery will be featuring three artists outside the gallery Thursday evening (weather permitting): Nancy Fiala hand painted glassware, Susan Denniston hand painted silk scarves, and Roberta Martinez- Banks fashion jewelry.

Simplicity Décor will feature Fused Glass Jewelry artist Wladimir Pino of Vitrofusion Art in his store. Wladimir uses a fused glass technique originating in Chile and Argentina, then passed down three generations. Each piece reflects his own passion for art and beauty while creating unique and timeless Jewelry.
MuShoe will be hosting artist Shan Koenig, a watercolor artist and Maker of Things originating from Pasadena California, who enjoys “coloring outside the lines” with bold colors and a wide variety of subject matter.

Howard Mandville Gallery is showing is showing new works by Karin Jurick and Fred Calleri. Both are oil painters and are inspired by painting figures. Karin enjoys observing and painting the daily events of ordinary people-whether it is a glimpse into someone’s private moment, commuting to work or relaxing on a park bench. “I find people in candid moments and that is my greatest inspiration.”
Fred aims to reproduce classic and romantic images using the master’s palette and mood to create an emotional reaction using each piece as a new lesson.

Liberty 123 will be featuring two local artists, Cody Blomberg and Cathy Handfelt. Cody (aka the “bird man,” is a talented Seattle artist best known for his charming bird paintings. Cathy Handfelt is and emerging talent and Kirkland photographer that specializes in natural light photography specializing in children, families and scenes from nature.

Parklane Gallery hosts their 17th Annual International Miniature Show, through May 31st. This ‘2nd Thursday’, Karen McClelland, Arlon Rosenoff, and Pamela Searcy will paint during evening hours. Karen is a figurative oil painter greatly influenced by Russian impressionism. She often paints Alla Prima or ‘wet to wet’. Arlon Rosenoff is a representational oil painter specializing in the palette knife technique. He is a member of the Oil Painters of America and focuses on painting local landscapes and nautical themes. Pamela Searcy paints in impressionistic style applying special attention to negative space and the repetitive patterns found in nature. She uses natural and neutral colors to paint memories from the hills and orchards where she grew up in Eastern Washington.
