One Response to “Kirkland’s Active Transportation Plan – Final Draft”
  1. Bob Style says:

Once again the city has drafted a plan that has ignored the current budget situation. In drafting the non-motorized plan, there is no one listed from staff from the finance department whose knowledge should have been included in the report.

The capital improvements needed to implement the city’s pie in the sky planning lacks adequate fiscal analysis to warrant expenditures at this time. The expenditures would only be possible if the city did business as usual by adopting a non-sustainable budget. For now, funding should be delayed if not all the plan, at least some of the plan. Many of the “needs” generated by staff are for the benefit of their own departments, the council for the up coming election, or the citizens who foster special interest. Somewhere along the line, priorities should insure that whatever need is satisfied, it’s for the greater good of all the citizens. All will pay whether they benefit or not.
