Downtown businesses share ideas on promoting Kirkland as a shopping destination

The back room of The Grape Choice was filled to capacity as over forty business owners and representatives gathered this morning to start a dialog on how to improve communication and cooperation among businesses in downtown Kirkland. The standing-room-only crowd assembled as the result of this letter sent by Paula Heddle, owner of Barkz the dog stop. Paula’s letter urged like-minded business owners to come together to improve communication among themselves and to promote their shared interest in improving the downtown business climate.
The gathering at the Grape Choice was held outside of the auspices of the Kirkland Downtown Association (KDA), which itself is transforming. New ideas and initiative as conveyed by people such as Paula Heddle, were a welcome site at a meeting of this type. The mood of most in attendance was upbeat and the enthusiasm and energy in the room was evident. Paula’s focus was on the future and how everyone downtown could benefit from cooperation and communication as they move forward with new ideas and new ways working together.
The next meeting of the group is to be held at The Heathman Hotel. At some future point, the actions of the group will likely be folded into the reemergent KDA as they share both the same goal of promoting a vibrant year-round downtown.

It was great to see the merchants come together today! Having been in Kirkland for over 15 years there has been a lot of change and it is all coming back around because we have new businesses and a surge of new energy. That is what it takes, getting together and figuring ways to “make it happen” ! Kirkland has always had a very unique feel. We can revive downtown, it has been said “this is the jewel – the heart of Kirkland.” I look forward to being part of a merchant team bringing it all back to life again!
