The 12k’s of Christmas Holiday Run in Downtown Kirkland

5

UPDATE: Due to icy roads, the 2008 12K’s of Christmas was cancelled. Please see the official website for updates on what that means as far applying registration to possible future events.

As the start time of 9:30 AM rolled around, the race had been cancelled and they went immediately into announcing the winners of the Dooley’s Dog House Dog Costume Contest followed by announcement of the winning two costumed participants. Despite the weather, there was great turnout and good cheer all around. Much of the sponsored food that was to be provided to runners was given to the the needy.

The 6th annual 12K’s of Christmas Holiday Run starts at Marina Park on Sunday, December 14th. You can run, walk or crawl either the 12K or 5K course in this holiday-themed event. A post-event celebration will include a free kids dash for tots 10 years old and under, free food, music, dancing, the Car Toys Aftershock stage, and a holiday costume contest.

SPECIAL CONTEST

  • Run or walk in costume – decorate the streets of Kirkland with your colorful costume
  • Free Kid’s Dash – 10 and under (under 1K run)
  • Dooley’s Dog House Dog Contest – fastest 12K and 5K dogs as well as the top 3 best dressed holiday dogs each win $50 in doggie prizes provided by Dooley’s Dog House.

Photos from the event will be posted at KirklandViews.com so check back here for your photos after the race! Dress up in a costume, celebrate the season and get a head start on your New Year’s resolution and excercise more (well, at least that is my plan)!

  1. Oh yes, AND it’s a fundraiser for the Kirkland Downtown Association as well. ;)

Good point Julie! And thank you, KDA, for raising the funds for the beautiful tree! I heard you were asking for $500 but I’m hoping you raised more. Can you tell us how much the KDA raised and if you raised more than $500 what KDA will do with the difference?

    • Hi Moss Babe – LOVE the name BTW!… but we ended up raising about $1,200 from this wonderful community! It was just enough to pay for the cost of the lifts to put up the tree, and the lights, and about half the cost of the fantastic Northwest Men’s Chorus fee. Thank you again to everyone who made this possible this year. (And thank you to PSE who donated the colorful LED lights and the volunteers this weekend who helped decorate. It looks GREAT down here now.)

    Yes, pray tell Julie…

After the tree, lights, bows, Xmas party, planters, Jazz Nights, THITh, Car Show, 4th of July parade and dozens of other annual events… what will you do with extra money?

Thank you Julie – this is excellent! It’s a tangible example of why this community is so special. I’m delighted that the fundraising was so successful and grateful to the KDA for what they have done to bring more holiday spirit to downtown!
