Caffé Rococo Opens on Park Lane

Wednesday was opening day at Caffé Rococo, Kirkland’s newest coffee shop and onsite roaster located at 136 Park Lane. Adam Olsen, general manager of Rococo has over 7 years experience in the coffee business and is known around town from his work at Kahili Coffee.

The minimalist interior, concrete floor, square lines and soft furniture all combine to make Rococo a welcoming and comfortable space. The leather couches which occupy the center of the caffé have oversized armrests with ample room for your drink. No need for end tables here. At the bar Rococo offers the customary selection of espresso drinks and tasty treats one would expect to find in an independent coffee house, but with the added benefit of location. This is just what was needed along Kirkland’s most pedestrian street.

Rococo is a welcome addition to Kirkland and will become a regular stop on our frequent strolls down Park Lane. Stop by and meet Kirkland’s newest neighbor… Caffé Rococo.

    Could it be?

Dare we hope that this is indicative of a new health and vitality in downtown Kirkland?

SRM Development is putting down sidewalks, Washington Federal has opened their remodeled doors, Absolutely Fabulous Consignment is in it’s brand new digs and Stu is getting ready to spring an upscale Mexican Cantina on us.

An embarrassment of riches in our little burg!

I hope the cafe does well, and I’m all for more successfull businesses downtown, but…Is another coffee shop really what downtown Kirkland needed? Were there people whose coffee needs weren’t being fulfilled?

    Hi bigyaz,

Point taken. When Kahili Coffee closed, there was one less coffee shop in town. My guess is there is plenty of room for all of the coffee shops downtown – everyone has their preferences. Some want coffee fast, in a cup and out the door. Others prefer to savor the experience and mingle or study or conduct business.
When the Laundromat on Park Lane closed, there was a vacancy which Caffé Rococo filled. I am pleased to see it and I join you in wishing them success. I personally don’t live downtown, however, I am downtown 5 days out of the week and from my perspective, a coffee shop is perfect for the location. Time will tell. The alternative would possibly have been another consignment, nail, or hair salon (the latter of which requires one to have hair, so I would not have been their target market).
I know my consumer tastes are atypical. I like to frequent all of our downtown coffee shops for variety. I have my favorites, but I like to mix it up. They are all unique and offer customers a different experience and that is what is needed in my opinion – new places where people can mingle downtown, where conversations can take place and where ideas can be exchanged.
Different strokes for different folks. Do we need another coffee shop? No, but it certainly is nice to have one! Do we need an alternative to QFC in downtown? No, but I certainly would like to another option.

I applaud these risk-takers and entrepreneurs (as I am sure you do) as they take great risk to open shops in this tough economy. We need new ideas, new blood to keep our town vibrant. So I say, welcome Rococo and the more the better.

Well, for some reason coffee (and consignment) shops and salons seem to succeed where so many other downtown businesses fail, so more power to them. And of course, nobody wants to see any more empty storefronts.

As to supermarkets: I’d love to see PCC move from Houghton to downtown (exactly where I don’t know…). They’re obviously being hurt by Metropolitan Market and would do well with the downtown crowd. Trader Joe’s would be another great option, since it’s a relatively small store and is stuck in that godforsaken location. As always, parking would the be big issue.

My latte this morning from Rococo hit the spot! Can’t wait to make it a frequent morning stop…we’ve been waiting for another coffee shop to hang out at since Kahili closed and this looks like the perfect fit.
