The Kirkland American Little League Opening Day Parade made its way from Marina Park to Lee Johnson Field in Peter Kirk Park on Saturday morning with dozens of baseball teams and support staff of parents and grandparents in tow. It was the first day of spring and the kids enjoyed a warm sunny weather (even if some of the grass in the park was a bit wet).
Here is the schedule they followed for the day:
10:00: Teams follow the motorcycle escort and the color-guard from Marina Park to Lee Johnson Field.
Parade Route: The teams will walk along the sidewalk in between the parking lot and the
beachfront; proceed eastbound along Kirkland Avenue along the eastbound lane. At the
driveway between the pool and the Kirkland Performance Center, the kids will turn left and
funnel through the center field gate of Lee Johnson Field. Team-by-team, the players and
coaches will enter the field and field conditions permitting, jog around the bases (3rd to home
to first). As they round home, the emcee will announce the teams. From there, they will line-
up as a team along the edge of the outfield in the order they were announced.
10:45: The festivities begin (as soon as the teams are in place)
–The Honor guard presents the flag
–Pledge of Allegiance
–Little League Pledge (recited by the kids who will follow the PA announcer)
–Introduction of the Person of Honor (TBD)
–Introduction of the League President, John Rudolph
–Introduction of the Board (as a single body)
–Honorary pitcher and catcher come out for the ceremonial first pitch
11:20: Kids and parents meet-up. Coaches should keep their teams in-tact on the field, releasing the kids to
parents as the adults retrieve their kids on the field.
At 12:15, one-hour exhibition games at the Opening Day Jamboree at Everest Park begin. All softball teams
and all baseball teams (minors on up) are scheduled to play on Saturday afternoon. Please check the
Jamboree schedule to be posted on the Kirkland American web site or check with your coach (Jamboree is
Minors Baseball and Softball and above)
