The goal of the list is to publicly recognize companies with outstanding recycling programs and waste reduction practices, and help motivate others in the local business community. The list helps illustrate steps that local companies are taking to reduce waste and save money.
Why apply?
The Best Workplaces for Recycling and Waste Reduction list gives your business the recognition it deserves for conserving valuable resources. Companies that make the list are sent a recognition certificate and window cling (for businesses with storefronts), and are listed on the King County Web site with a short case study on their recycling/waste reduction efforts. When the list is published, King County conducts outreach to local consumer and business media to publicize the honored businesses.
How can you qualify?
To qualify as a Best Workplace for Recycling and Waste Reduction, companies must complete an online application providing information on how they promote recycling and waste reduction in the workplace. The business must be located in King County outside the City of Seattle, and meet several criteria, including recycling efforts such as offering recycling bins at every employee workstation, purchasing recycled content products and offering employees tips on how to recycle more. Last year, 65 businesses were publicly recognized for their efforts.
What is the deadline?
Entries must be received by May 24, 2010. The final list of qualified businesses for 2010 will be promoted to local consumer and business media in June.
