UPDATED

Employees of The Heathman Hotel rolled up their sleeves, put on some gloves and worked to improve Heritage Park as a part of their year-long commitment in the Adopt-A-Park program with the City of Kirkland Parks Dept. Heathman Hotel employees will donate approximately 1000 man hours in 2010 to Heritage Park. The hope is that other businesses and organizations will follow suit and adopt parks as well. The volunteer efforts will help to offset cutbacks in groundskeeping due to recent budget cuts.

  • Volunteers hauled out two dump trucks full of invasive brush from blackberry thickets and ivy vines & weeds
  • Participants included 12 Hotel Managers, 2-Local Citizens, and 1-Park Supervisor
  • Mayor and Deputy Mayor visited to express gratitude and support
  • Time spent at the park: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Thank you to all for a job well done!

Thank you, Heathman! This is wonderful and more important than ever with cuts to park maintenance. Letting weeds and invasives grow will cost us all more money as we try to get on top of them again in the future.

Thank you to all the wonderful people of the Heathman Hotel who are helping to clean up Heritage Park. I believe it is necessary for Kirkland as a whole (Businesses, neighborhoods, citizens, and government) to get together and protect our parks. Parks are vital to the attractiveness of Kirkland. Parks are one of the hardest hit departments in Kirkland due to budget cuts. The city is doing a great job, but there is always more to do. If we as a community want to keep our parks clean and beautiful, we all need to pitch in!
