Two highly negative reviews within a couple hours of each other, both women and AR1 describes someone who doesn't even work there.

Hmmmm.

Does this sound like a single disgruntled ex-employee to anyone else?

To start with, my kicking another person out of the bar earlier in the night in a unrelated incident had no affect on the situation the poster is concerned with. I had received multiple complaints from other patrons regarding this person (who was ordering nothing) and I had noticed her exhibiting unusual behavior (talking to herself and circling the bar) and decided it was necessary to ask her to leave. A disagreement ensued and I took the necessary steps to get her to exit the bar. At no time did I touch or curse at this person!

As for the complaints of the poster above. As he said he was the last to arrive. He missed the part of the conversation where I asked the group of around 10 people if they wanted to start individual tabs or be treated as one. They asked to be treated as one group with one tab to be sorted out later. When he arrived he proceeded to order drinks while sitting with and interacting with the rest of this group. At no time did he ever provide me with a credit card or ask to be kept separate from the group. When the majority of this group was ready to leave, they were provided a complete and comprehensive receipt for everything they had ordered. There were no disputes about anything on the tab at this time. Multiple people handed over credit cards and asked me to run them for specific dollar amounts. $20 here, $60 there etc. It is not my responsibility as a bartender to make sure your friends pay the appropriate amount of a group tab. Before everyone left, I clarified that there was still a tab remaining and the last person there was going to take care of the rest. They all agreed, including the person who would later dispute what he owed and eventually left without paying. 9 out of 10 people in this group received great service and left happy. None of them have been 86′d and we look forward to seeing and serving them again.

After his friend left without paying his tab, I asked him to give me his name and phone number so I could attempt to retrieve the money that was still due. It was around $50, which I had to cover out of my own pocket. He refused and said he was only going to pay for the drinks he personally had. I explained that I had no intention of charging his card for the amount still due, (which most bars and bartenders would) but would hold on to his card for the time being until a solution could be reached. He then provided me the phone number, his card was returned, and he left paying for the 3 beers he had. If he had started a separate tab, I would have never held his card in exchange for his friends mistake. When you start as a group, you will be treated as a group until the entire bill has been satisfied.

I’ve worked behind a bar before, and I know how hectic it can be when a big group goes to cash out, especially when they’re trying to split up a check. If the poster’s friend had an issue with what was left on the check, he should have called and discussed it with his friends, not taken it out on the bartender. That guy’s lucky that he’s not getting the cops called on him, walking out on a tab is the same as stealing!

My friend got frustrated, threw some cash on the bar and walked out.
This bartender wouldn’t give me my credit card back. I told him I was an individual who met friends and was willing to pay my tab for what I owed. He said he’d only charge me for my own but said he would hold my card. I never said I was on a group tab. That is my only credit card. He had NO right to hold my card for another person’s tab.
My friends have been loyal and frequent customers at that place for the last ten years+. When it was TGIF we were always given the best service. I have never seen such an unprofessional bartender. He kicked a woman out that night that was being somewhat annoying. However he told her to “get the #%* out”.
The only reason he gave me my card back was if I gave him my friends phone number. He has no right to demand that. I informed him I will have my attorney contact his establishment.
I would appreciate a response from your owner. I was informed by a couple of friends that they were “86′d”. I can say your patrons who frequent there will be very surprised to hear that after over a decade of loyalty would be destroyed because of a dispute with a new unprofessional bartender. I do not approve of this particular friend’s actions. However, I haven’t been back since so I have no idea how I would/will be treated there. I am disappointed because that place has been one of my favorite places to meet friends and watch games. Thousands upon thousands upon thousands of dollars have been spent by our group over the years. I’m sure it’s in the tens of thousands.
