Second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.
Wilde Rover, 111 Central Way, Kirkland

Pacific Science Center’s Science Café program, currently held monthly in Queen Anne, is growing to reach new audiences. Thanks to a generous grant from the Institute of Museum Services (IMLS), Pacific Science Center is thrilled to present an additional Science Café location on the Eastside.

The new Café will launch Monday, January 11, at 7 p.m. at the Wilde Rover in downtown Kirkland. Each Science Café event begins with a local scientist presenting a backbone of science related to their field, followed by a short ten minute break for table discussion and beverage refills. The evening concludes with group conversation and a question and answer period.

“The concept of the café is to get our local community talking about the important issues that surround current science.  We choose to meet at a pub to allow people to engage in science in an environment that is comfortable and familiar,” Alaina Schulner, Special Events Manager for Pacific Science Center.

Katie Peichel, Associate Member, Division of Human Biology Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Affiliate Associate Professor, Department of Biology, University of Washington will be the first speaker at the Eastside Café. She will address the question of how evolution leads to a new species by discussing her studies of sticklebacks—tiny fish that can answer some big questions about genetics and variation between species.

Science Café is an informal, free event series bringing the community in direct contact with local researchers for engaging conversations about current science. The Café is more than just a lecture; it’s a place where anyone can come explore the latest ideas in science and technology in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Wilde Rover is located at 111 Central Way Kirkland, WA 98033. Parking is available both in a lot behind the restaurant as well as on the street.

The Eastside Science Café is presented by Pacific Science Center and KCTS9 and is held the second Monday of every month. For more information on upcoming speakers, topics and future Science Cafes please visit pacificsciencecenter.org.

Very cool. I think I informally suggested Wilde Rover when this first popped up and glad something materialized. Another evening booked up… :-)
