On November 19 at approximately 3:15 AM, a family residence in the 13100 block of 107th Pl NE, Kirkland, WA, had their home broken into by the brother of one of the occupants. The suspect forcibly entered the residence using a hatchet. The occupants were threatened with the hatchet and retreated to a bedroom and locked themselves inside. The suspect fled the residence and was spotted driving on I-405 by a Kirkland Police Department (KPD) patrol officer who attempted to pull the suspect over. The driver did not stop and a pursuit ensued with speeds not exceeding 60 mph. The pursuit went south on I-405, continued west on SR 520 and then south on I-5 to the West Seattle Freeway. Clyde Hill Police Department, Washington State Patrol and Seattle Police Department assisted KPD in the pursuit. After the suspect exited the freeway, he was stopped on 6th Ave South in Seattle by the Washington State Patrol by means of the Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT). The suspect was taken into custody and was booked into the Kirkland Municipal Jail on numerous felony charges. No one was injured at the victims’ home, or during the pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle.
