On Sunday morning at 7:30, the first wave of over 150 swimmers left the shores of Magnuson Park and swam across Lake Washington toward O.O. Denny Park just north of Kirkland — a distance of one and a half miles. The event was the 4th Annual Cross Lake Washington Park to Park Swim, benefitting Children’s Hospital. This open water swim was for strong and experienced swimmers who had trained specifically for this purpose.

Greeting the participants on the Eastside were volunteers serving breakfast along with cheering friends and family. Sponsor of the event, Everyday Athlete of Juanita, has a website with additional information at www.EverydayAthlete.us.

What was started in 2001 as a group of friends stepping up to the challenge of swimming across the lake and then celebrating their success with a festive breakfast, has blossomed into a philanthropic cause for swimmers throughout the region.

Thank you to Annie Thorgrimson for all of her inspiration and hard work in organizing this fantastic event in support of a worth cause.
