There appears to have been some sort of resolution to the mess, at least a far as Council is concerned. We'll hear what it is on Monday night:

WOW!
I didn't know that about the Eastside. I lived in Cities where the political bosses ran everything and everybody. I was wondering about all these people. I am glad that someone identified the guy on the left of my TV screen. My take as a probationary Kirklandite having just passed my 6 months here, is that maybe these guys know that Sternoff is closer to the truth than they are. Sneaky? I don't get that feeling. He seems to try and get these guys to think about what they are about to do. From what I see he doesn't have a lot of choices but to try and debate the issues. I do see the Mayor and others as being condescending toward him. That is too bad because he seems to be the only one with any business sense. I don't understand the description of the Mayor. Is he anti-business? I have heard him say a couple of things about his business acumen that would lead one to believe that he had a successful business. This place is really confusing!

In the 1990s the Eastside started to turn away from it's conseravtive roots and voted in many democrats. The color on the political map went from red to purple. Today Kirkland city council is blue through and through. Sternoff may be a shade of purple but there is not a conservative voice to be found on the council.
As I recon from watching these folks, the color chart looks like this:
Sternoff Purple - no one else listens to him, comes across as sneaky because Kirkland hates developers
Greenway Blue - caring
Hodgson Blue - wild
Lauinger Blue - should be business oriented but is not due to past experiences
Ashert Blue - deceavingly hard core blue
Burleigh Blue - very regionally focused, should work for the county or state
McBride Blue - Deep dreamy eyes blue

I truly believe all of the council members have the best interest of the City at heart, but they ALL have their own agenda, Joan McBride included.

Bob Sternoff is the guy that sits to the left of Jessica Greenway (the one that thinks she's a celebrity). Bob is great! He is thoughtful, level-headed, fair-minded, and appears to represent the best interests for all the citizens of Kirkland. I wish he were my councilman. Jessica Greenway is my representative, urrgghhh... I voted for Penny Sweet. Please run again Penny. We need you to save us from these imposters.

Joan would make a great mayor! She listens to all points of view and appears to consider all the facts in her deliberations as opposed to those like Jessica, Tom, and Jim whose behavior is so void of impartialality it borders on the criminal. I agree we need financial experts to provide input but they don't need to be the final decision makers. We simply need representatives with the intelligence and ability to sort through the information before them.

What MUST happen is to rid our city council of those so enamored with their commitments to special interest groups like CIVIK.

I don't have a dog in this race but very rarely have I seen a politician resign. I don't know any of these Council people but from what I have seen there only seems to be one somewhat independent. That guy next to the woman who can't stop talking into the camera and seems to have everything she says scripted. I can't remember his name but it is not the guy who breached the attorney client priviledge. It will be noteworthy to see what does come out of this meeting. At some point somebody has to ask the question of how much has this cost the City? That would be a good question to ask the Mayor.

But will she be better that Mayor Lauinger?

Hopefully the nassive outcry (it has been massive hasn't it?) is enought to make council members think twice before voting on something... anything.

The term will run less than 1.3 years before elections - though it is unknown if a new mayor would be appointed then or in January.

There's no doubt we need new blood, but almost all the qualified candidates have demurred (that means they said no).

Pray that the mayor doesn't resign tonight... The Sun would have to change the cover and two pages of the body of Friday's edition! I was going flying tomorrow! If he resigns before the 5th, I'll have to go back to WORK tomorrow! Blah!

Hold everything. For those who think McBride is a good choice for mayor, think again. I can't think of a more scary person to run the city. She always is trying to increase spending on pet projects. She has never said the word NO to a request that included the words ENVIRONMENT or CHILDREN and she ALWAYS says how great Kirkland is at budgetting! Well has anyone seen our HUGE deficit? She is also chair of the budget committee I think.
Give it to someone with an education in finance and budgeting instead. If no one fits the bill then we need to recruit a citizen to run for office to fix this mess.
