DESIGN REVIEW BOARD VACANCY

Extended Application Period

The Kirkland City Council has extended the application deadline for the Design Review Board vacancy to August 21, 2008.  The Council is specifically seeking persons with professional experience in landscape architecture to fill this seat.  Qualified candidates should submit an application to the City by 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2008.  Application forms are available on the City’s website at www.ci.kirkland.wa.us, by calling 425-587-3190 or at City Hall, 123 5th Avenue, Kirkland, WA.

The role of the DRB is to review and make decisions upon proposed development projects for compliance with City of Kirkland design guidelines in several of Kirkland’s business districts; and to evaluate existing design policies.  The Board is composed of a majority of members who are professionals in the areas of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design/planning, or similar disciplines.  DRB members are appointed by the City Council to serve four-year terms.  General applicant qualifications for the DRB include individuals with professional expertise in the areas of design or building and construction; or Kirkland residents with ability to read and understand architectural plans and have general knowledge of building and design.  DRB meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m., Kirkland City Hall.  For agenda and meeting information, go to www.ci.kirkland.wa.us (Search: Design Review Board).

For more information about the application process, please contact Kathi Anderson, City Clerk at 425-587-3197 or kanderson@ci.kirkland.wa.us.

Are only landscape architects wanted? Do others need not apply? In this urban setting of downtown Kirkland, how much value does a landscape architect bring to the table?
