The Kirkland Parkplace redevelopment has caused a great deal of interest among the citizens of Kirkland and generated much discussion about the City’s future. There are many complicated issues involving the project that have caused confusion and left Kirkland citizens asking questions.

We have attempted to help answer some of these questions by devoting several pages of this website to covering this issue. You will find our coverage located in a page appropriately titled, Kirkland Parkplace under the “Downtown” menu on this page.

We have used as many sources for information as we could find given limited time and resources, and we plan to update the information so it will remain current. We hope it is helpful to the community. If we have missed something, please let us know so we can keep the information current. Thanks!

I really think the parkplace mall should be built. It will be so good for the downtown and we need more people working and living here. That is what parkplace will be. Please don’t let the DO NOTHING crowd win.

I don’t think it’s the do nothing crowd as much as it is the “Do something reasonable crowd.” This is the biggest commerical development on the eastside, save Microsoft and I don’t think they are even building something with that many suqare feet. It could be bad for Kirkland…drawing people out of downtown to Parkplace…or driving people away because traffic and parking will be impossible.

I think we can come up with a design that is closer to the downtown vision and still encompasses many of the developers ideas and can be workable. But we have to realize, what the developer is asking is not just about PArk Place…he is asking that we change the plan for downtown to allow taller buildings (4 -8 stories) and less set backs. That can have an even worse impact on these issues.

It’s not do nothing…it’s do something that makes sense. Every single project is asking for huge variances…it would be refreshing to see someone come in and offer something that works wihtin the vision spelled out in the comp plans.
